Recycling

Gammatron, Inc. is a trusted leader in neutron source recycling, bringing over 50 years of experience in the safe, compliant recovery and remanufacture of Am-241/Be sealed neutron sources. Our recycling program is designed to help customers extend the value of their existing assets while meeting modern industrial and regulatory demands—faster and at significantly lower cost than purchasing new sources.

Gammatron has the capacity to recycle the majority of used AmBe sources, using either American-borne or foreign-borne material, and can customize the end product to precisely match a legacy design or to meet the specifications of a new model. Pressure vessels can be sourced or manufactured in-house, and larger-activity legacy sources can often be remanufactured into multiple smaller-activity sources, aligning older inventories with today’s operational requirements.

Recycling with Gammatron allows clients to maintain equity in their disused product lines rather than paying solely for disposal. In most cases, recycling costs approximately one-third the price of a new sealed source—and when avoided disposal costs are included, the effective cost drops to roughly one-fifth. Any unused source material recovered during the recycling process is credited back to the client, further improving economics.

All sealed sources produced through Gammatron’s recycling programs are manufactured in 304 stainless steel, 17-4 stainless steel, or MP-35 stainless alloy, and maintain ISO 2919 / ANSI N43.6 Classification 66646 (or 666×6 for pressures exceeding 30,000 psi), with a Recommended Working Life (RWL) of 30 years. With turn-around times typically about half that of competitors producing new sources, Gammatron delivers a faster, more economical, and asset-preserving solution for neutron source renewal.
